The promotion of culture, in its different disciplines, is one of the main objectives of the cultural council of la Vila Joiosa. To achieve this aim, as well as programming and publicising the different performing arts, it is also essential to promote new literary creators.
Precisely, in order to support new writers and to bring literature closer to the citizens, the Town Council of la Vila Joiosa organises three literary competitions every year both in Spanish and Valencian.
Here are some details about these literary competitions.
'Ciudad de Villajoyosa' short story competition
This literary competition was created by Felipe Ramis, a teacher and politician from La Vila Joiosa, together with Enrique Cerdán Tato, the 'Premi de les Lletres Valencianes' prize winner, who presided over the jury until shortly before he left us.
Short novel prize 'Cristóbal Zaragoza'
This prize was created in 2003 by the Town Council of La Vila Joiosa with the aim of recovering the memory of one of the town's most distinguished writers, Cristóbal Zaragoza (La Vila Joiosa, 1923 - Orba, 1999).
